Sport for Confidence CIC has announced a change to its leadership, with Stephen Mitchell stepping down from his role as Chair and Director and Janet Hotz taking on the role of Interim Independent Chair. Mitch will remain involved as one of Sport for Confidence’s three co-founders, providing continuity as the organisation moves into its next phase.

Having been instrumental in establishing Sport for Confidence more than a decade ago, Mitch has played a central role in the organisation’s development from an initial proof of concept in Basildon into a model that has expanded into London boroughs and beyond. He was also integral to establishing Sport for Confidence’s first formal relationship with Sport England in 2020, helping to position the organisation as a credible partner in developing new approaches to tackling health inequalities through physical activity.

Sport for Confidence is now in a healthy position, with an established model, strong partnerships and an exciting proposition for the future. Mitch’s decision to step down from his formal governance role marks the next stage in Sport for Confidence’s evolution, while his continued involvement as a co-founder provides important continuity as the organisation develops its future direction.

Janet Hotz joined the Sport for Confidence Board as a Non-Executive Director earlier this year. She brings extensive senior leadership experience spanning three industries, having led organisational transformation across strategic, financial and delivery objectives in roles including Chief Operating Officer and Global Head of Strategy and Delivery. She holds an MBA, an MA in French, and a coaching accreditation.

Janet’s appointment as Interim Independent Chair takes effect immediately and will provide leadership continuity while Sport for Confidence designs its new business strategy. She will support the organisation through this transition and continue to help shape its future strategy through to completion. Once the new strategy has been agreed, the interim status of this role will be reviewed.

Sport for Confidence continues to operate as usual, with its leadership team focused on delivering existing programmes and partnerships while the organisation develops its next strategic phase.
