Movement Beyond Medicine

Movement Beyond Medicine is Sport for Confidence’s approach to reframing movement as more than treatment, exercise or behaviour change.

It explores movement as part of everyday life, focusing on identity, participation, joy, confidence, connection and belonging. The approach draws on occupational therapy, population health, lived experience and systems thinking. It supports professionals across health, social care, leisure, sport and community settings to think differently about how movement can be embedded into practice and systems, using digital learning, workshops, university teaching and cross-sector learning opportunities.

This work is connected to partnerships with universities, the Elizabeth Casson Trust and wider occupational therapy workforce development.

Movement Beyond Medicine Training

Explore the Movement Beyond Medicine training to discover how movement can be understood as part of everyday life, not just a tool for improving health.

The workshop examines how environments, systems and language shape opportunities to move, and how practitioners can embed meaningful movement into practice to support participation, identity and belonging.
