The Action for Children charity has awarded funding for Sport For Confidence to deliver inclusive sport camps for young people, during holiday times, from this October half term through to March 2021.
The move comes off the back of another successful programme which ran at Chelmsford Riverside Leisure Centre and Witham Leisure Centre this summer.
Lucy Goldup, Occupational Therapist and programme lead at Sport For Confidence, says: “This really is great news. We have been working in partnership with Action for Children via Essex Short Breaks on a project by project basis for the last couple of years. This ring-fenced funding now gives the programme some security and ensures that a wider proportion of the community will deliver ongoing sporting opportunities to a much wider segment of the community.”
The programme will run at three Essex leisure centres; Witham Leisure Centre, Leisure World Colchester, and the Riverside Leisure Centre, Chelmsford, ensuring a good geographic spread across the county. Activities and timings will vary by site but will include boccia, multisports, dodgeball and New Age Kurling.
The first camps will take place during October half term, October 28 – November 1, 2019.
